NEW!! The Food of Pandora!

What they eat on other planets...The food of Pandora: World of Avatar!
Pandora: World of Avatar is the long-awaited new addition to Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. While it does not officially open until May 27th, previews have been happening during recent weeks, including Satu'li Canteen (quick-service) and Pongu Pongu (drinks/snacks). The food offers some great healthy options with a few special perks like refillable drinks and REAL utensils and plates (very pretty ones I might add.)

Pongu Pongu

Night Blossom ($4.99)- non-alcoholic mixture of Limeade with Apple and Desert Pear Flavors topped with Passion Fruit Boba Balls.
Really fun but really sweet. I only had a sip and it reminded me of the flavor of a sweettart candy. Refreshing on a super hot day though.

Pongu Lumpia ($4.59)- Pineapple Cream Cheese Spring Roll.

Super delicious! If you enjoy the pineapple wonton dessert from Yak & Yeti, you will love this. Great portion size, crispy on the outside, creamy and sweet on the inside. YUM!

Pongu Pongu is a simple walk-up counter design. It is next to the Canteen. Most Guests wandered to the covered, outdoor seating at the Canteen to enjoy their treats. Unless there's a line, you may miss Pongu Pongu. It's so well-themed that is blends in with the surrounding area. (Tip: Look for the photo-op just in front of the walk-up counter.)

Satu'li Canteen

Pandoran Sunrise ($4.49)- Refreshing balance of tropical juices blended with Powerade melon.
Very welcome beverage in the heat of the day! The Powerade melon adds a nice, not-too-sweet touch. I would choose this over a specialty drink at Pongu Pongu.
Create-Your-Own Satu'li Bowl (Various Prices)- bowls served with crunchy vegetable slaw and yogurt boba balls.
Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken ($11.49)- Red & Sweet Potato Hash, Creamy Herb Dressing.
The grilled chicken has a fantastic, smokey flavor and is tender and juicy. Absolutely delicious! The potato hash was ok, but nothing special. (I expect this will be changed to a french fry option eventually.) The slaw is crisp and light, but the creamy dressing was overwhelming. It tastes good, but probably would pair better with the kale salad as a base. The slaw, without the added creamy dressing, was lovely.

Steamed Vegetable Curry"Pods" Bao Buns ($10.99)- served with root vegetable chips and crunchy vegetable slaw.

These were my favorite item. The curried vegetables were not overly spicy, but had a lot of well-developed, hearty, rich flavor. The texture of the bun was light and soft. The slaw was refreshing. The yogurt boba balls on top were sour like vinegar to me but still "worked." The root chips had a tough texture. I was looking forward to them, but the texture was difficult.

Warning: The pods are dusted in a curry powder or tumeric. After I ate, I realized that everything I touched was SERIOUSLY stained yellow. Everything from my clothes to my mouth...and eyebrow! I didn't notice until I was in the bathroom. Multiple hand washes and it was still everywhere. That might need a slight menu tweak!

Kids' Meal Crispy Fried Tofu ($7.49)- Rice subbed with Romaine & Kale Salad, small drink. Side of Charred Onion Chimichurri Sauce.
Fresh, light salad with lightly-breaded, crispy on the outside and tender in the center tofu pieces. Great vegetarian option and not "heavy" for walking around the Park. This is the child-sized portion. The adult portion would be served in the larger bowl like the chicken shown above. Great flavor on the chimichurri sauce. I would request a side of it with anything on the menu!

Chocolate Cake ($5.29)- with a Crunchy Cookie Layer, Banana Cream, and Goji Berries.

This is more of a chocolate mousse than a "cake." It's tasty and very pretty. The banana cream tastes like fresh mashed banana...not too sweet. However, these are pre-assembled. So, the "crunchy" cookie layer is no longer crunchy. It's still a nice dessert for the price. I think that it compares to the level of quality you might find in most table-service Disney restaurant desserts. If you are craving something light and sweet, this should hit the spot.

The Canteen includes covered, outdoor seating as well as indoor seating with a variety of tables and booths. Some booths have a high-sided design that adds and interesting dimension to the room. There are little, lighted nooks at the entrance that house a variety of objects. The entire restaurant is filled with detail. It's worth taking some time to explore.

Seven Seas Lagoon Cocktail!!

Located on the Lobby level of Disney's Contemporary Resort is the Wave of American Flavors Restaurant and Lounge. This is one of only two places where Guests can find the Seven Seas Lagoon Cocktail. (It is also available at the Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Towers.)

The drink is served in a fish bowl style glass and includes: Vodka, Coconut Rum, Blue Curacao, Pineapple Juice, Agave Nectar, Soda Water, Boba (the bursting type), Swedish Fish, and a Glow Cube. The cost is $22, less than the price of two regular cocktails and definitely enough for sharing.

As expected, the drink is very sweet!! It's also very fun!!

Princessing tip: Eat the Swedish fish first. They are difficult to "fish" out, but if they sit in the drink for very long, they start to dissolve and become very unappetizing. Also, don't forget to keep your glow cube!
