NEW!! Gone Mad Wishes Dessert Party at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort!!

A new summer event is taking place every Wednesday until Labor Day at the outdoor patio near Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The times listed for the event are 8:30-10:30 P.M. However, Guests were welcomed before 8. The event is free!! Fabulously designed sweets are available for purchase ($5-$10) and unique glowing adult beverages are also available for an additional charge.

The event is set around a beautiful display of whimsical furniture fitting any Mad Hatter party. A table full of various Disney hats is provided for Guests to wear during the event. While this would not be considered a dance party, fun music plays throughout the night and Cast are very interactive and encourage Guests to get up and dance. The event ends with watching the Wishes Fireworks from across the water at the Magic Kingdom. The view is excellent!

The Food

Mad Citrus Martini ($4.99) Layers of vanilla cake with lemon custard and orange scented buttercream.

The bright citrus flavors in this treat are perfect for Florida. The buttercream is fluffy and not too heavy. The tartness of the lemon custard makes it refreshing for summer. This was my favorite dessert flavor at the event.

Red Velvet Trifle ($4.99) Layers of red velvet cake with fresh blueberries, raspberries and strawberry preserves meringue top.

This is for the berry lover! It is filled with whole berries and another refreshing dessert for a warm Florida evening.

Brownie Flower Pot with a Cake pop ($9.99)

This was RICH! It includes an edible flower pot made of very thick chocolate. It's filled with a rich chocolate brownie topped with buttercream, cookie crumb dirt, and delicious little candy coated chocolate rocks. The cake pop is vanilla cake coated in tons of sweetened coconut and little edible chocolate flowers. It's as delicious as it is precious!

Tiramisu in a Chocolate Tea Cup ($9.99)
What a perfect tea party treat!! EVERYTHING IS EDIBLE!  It was almost too pretty to eat...almost! The pink plate, spoon, and tea cup are all creamy, velvety-smooth white chocolate. The tea cup is filled with a deeply coffee flavored tiramisu that includes layers of coffee soaked sponge cake and cream. It's topped with little wisps of dark chocolate. Absolutely amazing in flavor and beauty!

Additional treats include a Cheshire Cat Cupcake ($9.99).
Butterflies in the forest ($4.99) layers of chocolate cake with black forest cherries and dark chocolate ganache.

A tower of fruit that looked like it was stacked by the Mad Hatter, himself, was also on display but not listed on the menu for pricing.

The Drinks

Green Potion Punch ($10.75) Hendricks Gin, Apple Pucker, Granny Smith Apple and Club Soda.

The Purple Grin ($12.75) Sky Citrus Vodka, Xfusion Vodka, Blue Curacao and Grenadine.
Both of these drinks were STRONG but packed with flavor. The addition of a glow cube made them extra fun!
Various bottled beers are also available as well as Child Tweedle Juice ($6.69) that is a blend of apple juice, club soda, a splash of grenadine, and a glow cube.

The Decor
The setting was beautiful and caught my eye as I was walking into Gasparilla Island quick-service restaurant. The Mad Hatter Tea Party themed chairs and stools are delightful. They are made of plastic and I'd love to have a set for my patio at home! A self-serve bar is where Guests may purchase specialty sweets and drinks. Additional tables are located a few steps away in front of Gasparilla Island. The area is close enough to be part of the party.
The Gone Mad Party location sits alongside of the water facing the Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle can be seen in the distance for a wonderful view of Wishes fireworks.
I highly recommend checking out the Gone Mad Party if you are at Walt Disney World on a Wednesday prior to Labor Day. It's a fantastic event and fun for the entire family without the price tag of a traditional dessert party. It felt like every little girl's dream!

*Special thanks to Mary Morales of Mad Hatter Travel for inviting me to the event. You can find her on facebook Here and Twitter @TinksThinks123. Also to Chad Ridge of Supersize Orlando for his great work providing information to larger Guests and those with special needs.
*The main seating area of the Gone Mad Party is located at the bottom of several small steps. I believe that there are inclined areas along the sides that make it accessible, but I'm not positive. Guests in wheelchairs were present on the lower level at the event. The tables in the back near Gasparilla Island are handicapped accessible. Cast are available to assist with any desserts or beverages you would like to purchase from the bar located on the lower level.
*Tables in Wonderland discounts are accepted. However, you must pay in full then take receipts and the TIW card to Guest Services AT DISNEY SPRINGS to receive the discount refund, as explained by the Cast at the Grand Floridian Front Desk.

NEW! Disney's Tri-Circle-D Ranch Horse Barn Tour!!

A new tour is now offered on select dates at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch Horse Barn at Ft. Wilderness Campground in Walt Disney World. One of the best parts is that IT'S FREE!

The tour includes a very informative guided walk-through of the barn with one of the Cast who cares for the horses of Walt Disney World. During the tour, we learned about Walt's love of horses. In fact, at the Ranch, they say "it all started with a horse."
The tour explores:
Mini Walt Disney Horses Museum

1907 calliope purchased by Walt used very rarely for special events. Guests may push a button and hear the music from the calliope.

Some of the working horses.

Our guide, Sam, also took us into backstage areas including the harness room, veterinary clinic, food storage area, and stalls of additional horses (no photography is permitted in backstage areas.) We learned about the care and feeding of the horses as well as how they are prepared to work special events, such as the Headless Horseman ride during the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Parade and pulling Cinderella's carriage for weddings. At the end of the tour, Sam brought out one of the horses for us to pet and pose for pictures. They are absolutely stunning animals.

No reservations are required for the tour. However, since the tours are only offered on select days, confirm tour times prior to attending. The barn, including the museum, the calliope, and several of the horses are available for Guests to visit daily even when no tours are offered. Pony rides are also available across from the barn entrance.

Ft. Wilderness is easily accessible by boat from the entrance of the Magic Kingdom and is a great place to take a quiet afternoon break from the parks. Also, they offer wonderful food at the Trail's End Restaurant. See details of the AMAZING weekend brunch HERE.

*Special thanks to Sam for the wonderful tour and for answering all of my questions after the tour.
*The Barn is moderately handicapped accessible.  Paths leading to the barn are mulch covered, not paved.  The museum and most of the tour are handicapped accessible. However, the harness room and veterinary clinic room each have a slight 2 inch step up into them. This may prohibit entry unless a Guest is able to transfer and step up into the rooms. The door remains open during those parts of the tour so it is possible to sit outside the open doorway.
*Retired horses of Walt Disney World are adopted to Loving Forever Homes. Guests may request the horses. A very strict application process is required.

New Trail's End Weekend Brunch, Disney's Ft. Wilderness Campground!! Come n' Get It!

A new scrumptious dining option is now available at Trail's End restaurant located at Disney's Ft. Wilderness Campground...BRUNCH! The brunch menu has the best of both worlds with a long list of breakfast items like biscuits and gravy and classic Mickey waffles with praline syrup or dinner options like delicious fried chicken and cold peel n' eat shrimp. There's even a carving station with ham and incredibly tender house-smoked slab bacon! There's something for everyone at the Trail's End brunch!

For those who may be concerned about getting to Ft. Wilderness, it's REALLY EASY!* There's a boat (including handicapped accessible boats) straight from the front gate of Magic Kingdom to the dock right at the restaurant! In just a few minutes, you can be relaxing in a cool, calm, country setting on a front porch rocking chair away from the crowds!

And the BEST part about the brunch, besides the amazing food, is THE PRICE! Yes! It's only $23.00 for Adults including non-alcoholic drinks and tax/$13.00 Children ages 3-9!! While I was dining, I actually heard a Guest at the table behind me joyously proclaim, "THAT'S the bill?? I'm SO HAPPY!"

The Food
Brunch Menu Available from 7:30 AM- 2:00 PM
I was absolutely impressed with the quality of the food. Providing fresh food can be a serious challenge for a buffet with so many options, but Chef Sergio and his Cast do an excellent job. He told me that everything, besides the soups, is made fresh. Even the meat is house-smoked! The quality is outstanding! While I did not taste everything on the buffet, I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE ITEM that I did try!
My top picks include the fresh-sliced, house-smoked, slow-cooked slab bacon. I haven't had real slab bacon since I was a child (my mom was the daughter of a professional butcher). This was better than I remember! It melted in my mouth and had a sweet-seasoned crust that matched the richness of the meat perfectly!
I also enjoyed the peel-n-eat shrimp. Not only were the cold shrimp very satisfying on a hot day, but they are simply an amazing value for the cost of the buffet.
My other favorite was the cinnamon praline sticky buns. They were warm, gooey, loaded with pecans and so delicate. The soft, sweet dough was light as air and it was very difficult to stop at just two! Finally, the fried chicken is not to be missed. There are so many delicious options to choose from, but try to save room for the fried chicken. I swear somebody's southern grandma is in the kitchen making every piece. You can taste the love!
My family had a few other top picks including the french toast bread pudding topped with either blueberry compote or warm praline sauce. Everyone who mentioned it made yummy noises as they said the name. The country eggs benedict was also a hit. There was talk of using the meat to make a sandwich because it was so tender and delicious. Finally, the smoked beef hash received rave reviews for the quality of the beef. I even overheard the table next to us talking about that dish.
So, whatever your tastes, Trail's End Brunch has something for everyone! Make sure to book a weekend reservation during your next Walt Disney World Vacation!
