Never Anger The Tiki Gods! : Trader Sam's Grog Grotto Review

I FINALLY made it to the "new-ish" Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort! I can assure you, it was worth the wait!

Looking for some interactive fun with awesome Disney Cast Members while sipping on some delicious drunken delights? Step inside and you are immediately greeted in the spirit of a fun exotic adventure. As soon as I entered, I was told that I had just missed being sacrificed. That's me...always late to the party. Maybe next time? At least I had the chance to try out one of the signature drinks as well as the food. (Please forgive the food photo quality. Flash photography is not permitted..."This is a family establishment!")

The Drinks
We ordered the UH-OA! ($39.99 including collector bowl/mug, serves 2 or more) Myers's Original Dark Rum, Bacardi Superior Rum, Orange, Passion Fruit, Guava, Pineapple, and Grapefruit Juices, Falernum (a spiced syrup), Cinnamon, and fresh Lime Juice. Not mentioned are a few sugar cubes on top and something boozy that made them flame up.
The tikis on the bowl are doing the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" poses. This was so much fun. Not only do you get to anger the tiki gods and have the entire bar chant along with you, but you also get to play with fire! Warning: The next morning was not so fun. That angering of tiki gods thing is NO JOKE! HYDRATE! I give this 2 thumbs up on the painfully-delicious scale!

Expect constant action throughout the evening. Many of the drinks involve full bar participation, including getting a little wet! Don't worry, the servers have floaties and goggles to assist during the sudden, and repeated, "dives." Some fun Disney magic and animatronics also spring to life around the room throughout the evening. Don't miss the special one above the bar! (Spoiler: moving giant tentacle swinging a bottle of rum!)

Trader Sam's has an extensive menu of cocktails unique to that location within WDW.  Collectible mugs are available for purchase. You will be given a new in-box mug as you exit. There are even a few non-alcoholic options. Please note that several drinks are meant for more than one person. Both the price and the amount of alcohol reflect that.

The Food
A small selection of appetizer type food is also available if you would like a snack. There is a nice variety, including sushi.

Chicken Lettuce Cups ($10.99) with Hoisin Ginger Sauce.

These were light and tasty. A few pieces of butter lettuce, small bowl of diced marinated chicken, and some crisp pickled vegetables on the side.

Kalua Pork Tacos ($9.99) with Cabbage and Pickled Vegetables.
Hearty little bites. Tender tortillas filled with pork. What's not to love?

I encourage everyone to swing by on your next trip. Get there early. Although the lounge is relatively spacious, it only has a capacity of 51 people (inside) and seating for even less. It was standing room only when we arrived. Also, people do tend to linger and sip their drinks. So, do not expect seating to open up very often.

*Trader Sam's Grog Grotto is handicapped accessible.
*Although little skippers are permitted inside Trader Sam's, after 8PM, only 21 and over allowed.
